What will good well being habits do for you? Let’s ask Melissa McCarthy

Hey there wonderful people,

Let's talk about self-care, shall we? You know, those moments when you're told that the best way to take care of yourself is to indulge in a big trip, a luxurious spa day, or a glamorous night out on the town? Yeah, those moments. Do you think that the best way to take care of yourself is to have a big trip, a spa day, a night out, an occasion you save for?

I know why you would think that because everyone says it is true. 🤷‍♀️💐

Having a one-off self-care day equals happiness.

But how true is it?

Now, don't get me wrong, I understand why we're drawn to these ideas. They promise instant happiness and rejuvenation, and lordy, we feel the need. But here's the thing: do they really deliver lasting results?

Do they truly cultivate a sense of fulfillment and wellbeing in our lives?

How long can we sustain our good vibes on these one-off moments of yippee? Sure, there’s a habit involved and that is the booking of the trip, the going to the spa, fills our bodies with a rush of dopamine. But what next?

Well, let's take a closer look.

Think about some of the most successful individuals in the world – athletes, singers, actors. Did they get there by relying solely on one-off experiences? Probably not. I like to think of Melissa McCarthy, for instance, the beloved actress who skyrocketed to fame in her 40s. Her journey to success wasn't built on one lucky break; it was the culmination of years of hard work, knock backs, and nailing it by perseverance (and a heck of a sense of humour).

Now, I get it. We're not all striving for Hollywood stardom or Olympic gold medals. But don’t we share a common desire?… That is to lead fulfilling lives and take care of ourselves in a way that's actually sustainable within the constraints of our daily routines? What we do want is a way to take care of ourselves, that is achievable for our lives, that gives us a fuller life.

Making herself a habit

And I do not think that this comes from a one-off trip or being a one-hit wonder. Ask Melissa, and she would tell you it took her many years of making herself a habit to make her acting dreams a success. 👌😍

Here's what I’ve learned: Successfully working on yourself comes from doing what is possible. And starting it small. And committing to it. And that's where the magic happens – not in grand gestures or fleeting moments of luxury, but in the small, consistent efforts we make to prioritize our wellbeing.

Let me share a bit of my own journey with you. I didn't transform my life by setting out to run a marathon. I started there, got injured, and went back to square one. And from there I restarted small, stumbled along the way (and stumbled a bit more in a stop start manner), and eventually made the "15 Minute Me Method." It's a simple yet powerful approach to self-care that has become the cornerstone of my life as a busy mum with young kids. The 15 Minute Me Method was born out of a need to work with what I actually had (which is now the foundation for all aspects of my life as a mother of kids under 10). This if for you too, if you don't want to keep feeling 👇

  • Deflated from restarting over and over

  • Fatigued from all the zillion self-care offers in your face everyday

  • Annoyed that you keep slipping back to the "I'll do it when I am not needed elsewhere"

  • That you have just hit a wall.

You see, I know all too well what it's like to feel stuck in the cycle of constant restarts and unfulfilled promises to myself. I've been there, trapped in what I call the "Habit Hamster Wheel" – constantly striving to meet the needs of others while neglecting my own. I know how this all plays out, because I was so far in that loop, I couldn't see there was a heck of a glorious parachute that would lift me out of there, and into the best movement routines and headspace of my entire life.

And here's the thing: there's a way out of that habit pattern for you, too, friend. There is a parachute ready to lift you out of the rut and into a life filled with movement and peace of mind. And trust me, once you make that leap, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

So, if you're tired of feeling deflated, fatigued, and stuck in the same old routines, I invite you to join me on this journey of ahah moments, and actual results that make that healthier lifestyle within the everyday. Together, let's break free from the self-care hamster wheel and embrace a life of lasting wellbeing. Are you ready? Let's do this! 🚀💫
